I had strep a few weeks ago & had to be put on 2 courses of antibiotics to knock it out(21 days), the strep is now gone. But since being sick & being on the antibiotics, I’ve had heartburn, difficulty swallowing & chest pain upon swallowing & the doctor said he thinks its acid reflux & hastily gave me an acid blocker, which I have yet to take because the heartburn really wasn’t THAT bothersome & I didn’t think I needed it. (My doctor is one of those that rushes you thru, & not a good listener) My chest is bothering me, sometimes even hurting a little when I breathe (although I’ve had no chest congestion or coughing), and when I eat, things that don’t normally get stuck, are getting stuck at my chest & difficult to get to go down & it’s painful. Is this really a symptom of acid reflux? I’ve never had a problem with acid reflux before, I have none of the other symptoms that I’ve heard of with acid reflux. Should I get a 2nd opinion? Anyone had this symptom before?
The reason I am so hesitant at taking the acid blocker meds is because I don’t want to take unnecesary medication & because I’ve heard negative things about acid blockers themselves.
Anyone ever have this problem as a complication of strep? I first noticed it when I had been on my first course of antibiotics for 2 days.
Also, I don’t have the money to go out and get unnecessary prescriptions filled. It wouldn’t seem to be my heart, if the problem is when I swallow, I would think.

My son did not vomitt as a baby. Around 10 months he started. Now he does it 4-5 times a day. His dr. ordered an upper gi which didn’t work because my son wouldnt drink enough barium. So he diagnosed him with acid reflux. He put him on Reglan and Zantac a month ago. The meds are not working he still throws up 4-5 times a day and it is projectile vommiting. I don’t know what to do anymore. I feel so bad for my son.

Is there any over the counter medicines that will help my acid-reflux? Anything that will keep it from coming back? What can I do to get some instant relief from the burning pain in my chest and throat?

I think it seems to be worse,he arches his back when winding & goes very red & sticks his tongue out as if in discomfort.He is 11 weeks old but was born at 29 weeks.He is also on vitamins daily,so is on enough meds!! Is there anything I can do to help relieve his discomfort?

I’ve had acid reflux for a year and I sort of forgot about taking my meds. So I am going to go back to DR. and try to get back on this. What Acid reflux medicine do you recommend?

she is formula fed and thickened with rice cereal and on Alimentum
oh ya, she doesn’t spit up much but use to scream when she saw the bottle or tried to eat….the acid would come up and she would re-swallow it….the meds are the only thing that seem to help so far

he does better w/o the medicine then he does with it. Switching the formula to something with iron but for also gassy, fusiness and colic. What is the best formula for this?

I just got told I have IBS and Acid Reflux after having my gallbladder out in Jan 08. Would Fiber help with IBS? I have Diarrhea and it’s terrible. Plus I don’t want to take any meds. Would fiber bind to the bile?? I’m 20 years old.

Now my insurance is tapped out for all meds and I cannot afford the almost $200.00 per month that it would cost for this medication. Is there anything over the counter that is equivalent to this Acid Reflux medication that I can take until January 1? This health insurance is quite controlling.
