My son has just been diagnosed with acid reflux and has been put on prevacid. Has anyone else’s baby been on this medication? How long did it take to work? Were there any side effects?
my son is 9 months old and was diagnosed by a pediatric GI specialist

I started suffering from the symptoms of acid reflux the week after Thanksgiving. On December 21, I went to a doctor and he gave me Prevacid. I’ve been taking that since then. I started feeling much better about a week after I started taking the medication, but my symptoms are not all the way gone. Sometimes I still feel like I have a lump at the back of my throat and I have to burp a lot. Occasionally I’m slightly nauseous. How long does it typically take to recover from acid reflux, or do you recover at all? And when I run out of medication, should I be fine by then or will I need more? I have enough for about a month and a half. I do plan on going back for a check up at the end of this month as well, as my doctor asked me to.

Sometimes I get fits of belching where it feels and tastes very carbonated even though I have consumed no carbonated beverages. What causes this and how can this be treated? Should I take more Pepcid, Prevacid, and ginger when this occurs?

My 9 month old son has been diagnosed by a GI specialist with acid reflux. However, the medication he gave my son, Prevacid, almost seems to be making him worse. He’s got so much gas and burps that he keeps waking himself up from naps after 30-40 minutes. Sometimes he’s crying, but he always has to burp or pass gas. Is there a possibility that it could be something else? Did anyone else have this problem?

I can get him to take tums occasionally, but he won’t touch the prevacid that was prescribed for him. I’m looking for OTC ideas that can help, as well as foods to avoid. Thanks!

I’ve seen the doctor already and they just prescribed me medicine. The thing is…I don’t want to take medicine. I’ve done enough research on acid reflux to know that when you take the meds they give you (prilosec otc, prevacid, etc.) you have to take them for the rest of your life. I just want to cure it naturally. Do gastroenterologists prescribe medication too? Or do they give you give you techniques and advice on curing your reflux?

I know of some home remedies but I was curious what I could buy at the store just in case. I know that you can get prilosec and prevacid with a prescription. I just started having symptoms and it’s pretty mild so far but I don’t want it to get worse. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have taken prescription medicines, prevacid seems to work well, but the medical place where we have to get our medicine, doesn’t want me to use that, because it cost more money for them, so they have been giving me the substitute for prilosec, which is omeprazole. ( my doctor o.k. ed it ) but in the last few months, I have been having diarrehia. I went to the doctor just the other day, he took me off of this medicine and I haven’t been having the diarrehia. So I was just wondering if anyone knew of something that I could get that was natural, that would take care of the acid reflux. I would appreciate any help that anyone could give. Thanks so much in advance.
To Susan Yarrawonga…..what is an alkaline diet…what does it consist of.

Now my insurance is tapped out for all meds and I cannot afford the almost $200.00 per month that it would cost for this medication. Is there anything over the counter that is equivalent to this Acid Reflux medication that I can take until January 1? This health insurance is quite controlling.

She still spits up all day long. She does not seem as fussy now that she is on the medicine. Is this normal to still be spitting up so bad and on the medicine? The dr tried Axid at first and then switched to Prevacid. Any advice would be great
It is very common to put a baby on Prevacid. They even make it for babies. She takes a pill that dissolves. I am also nursing so changing formulas would not be in order.
